A week long programme of events and activities has been held at school, in honour of Earth Week.

Students across the school have been involved in the event, which allowed a multidimensional exploration, both to celebrate the beauty of our planet, as well as understand the scope and scale of the challenges ahead. 

Over the past week we welcomed a number of speakers to talk to students about issues around sustainability. A visit has been made to PNEC Organic Farm, and there has been a special focus in English, Human Technologies and Economics classes. A wide range of awareness raising resources has been shared with students; an Earth Day poster competition has been held, and a sponsor a tree project has been launched. 

The core message has been that we need to be sustainable within ourselves before we set out to fix problems we might see in the world. If we are calm and balanced internally, then we will have the energy and capacity to effect change in a more sustained fashion in the future.

ICHK's Sustainability Group has been working alongside the library to offer a wide range of books to students which help promote a sustainable lifestyle. This month’s reading challenge has also been to read books about sustainability.
